The fifth hole is also challenging in that it is the last of three risk/reward holes on the front nine. As you look down the fairway, you will see that this hole is a 90 degree dogleg left. From the white tees you have more or less a straightaway shot where you can hit the middle of the fairway, but you do not really have a straight enough line to the green unless you are able to draw your ball slightly. From the blue and black tees, your play off the tee should be to use a lofted club and put ball straight away on the rise and in the fairway, setting up for a “simple” 100-130 yard second shot to the green. If the tee markers are on the right side of the tee box, and you are confident enough off the tee, take a longer iron and blast your shot with a little draw over the trees to the left for an easier shot to the green. Be aware that risking a shot over the trees may come up short and put your second shot in danger if you don’t make it, or if you blast it too long and end up in the tree line long.

 

Your second shot should reach the green on the fly as this green slopes a little more moderately from back to front than the fourth green and will collect your ball. Miss long, left or right and you will have a difficult shot to the pin especially if you are long as the green will be sloping away from you. Be aware that if you fly onto very front of the green, you ball may end up rolling back off the green.
